The Cheetahs will be desperate on Friday when they face the Pumas in their first home Currie Cup game of the season.

Last weekend, the Cheetahs suffered a shock defeat against Boland. It was an atrocious first half display by the Bloemfontein-based side. They fought back in the second half to take the lead, but Boland scored eight minutes after the hooter to win the game 37-35.

That result puts the Cheetahs on the backfoot early in the season. They cannot afford another slip-up, particularly not at home.

Last week, on home soil, the Pumas showed their class once again, beating Griquas 49-28. While it was an exciting fixture, the Pumas always looked in control of the outcome.

That performance will have some of the bigger unions take note. The Pumas, 2022 Currie Cup champions, are once again looking to challenge.
