Pumas vs Griquas Preview & Tips - Pumas tipped to win tight encounter

The Pumas have won their last two matches against Griquas, both by less than 12 points. We are backing a similar result this time around.

Pumas have won their last two matches against Griquas. The last time they met it ended 22-17 in Pumas favour in the 2020 Currie Cup.

The Pumas will be happy with their start to the Currie Cup campaign as they currently sit in third place after two matches. A bonus point victory could send them top should the Sharks result go in their favour.

In round one the Pumas put in a superb performance to beat the Lions 39-10 at home. They were similarly impressive last week against a full strength Bulls outfit. Unfortunately the Pumas came up just short in a 32-27 away loss.

Last season the Pumas beat Griquas in both the Currie Cup and Super Rugby Unlocked competition. While it is expected to be tight, Pumas are certainly favourites.

Pumas will be at full strength for this fixture.

Griquas have already exceeded their performance from last year by winning a game. They finished bottom of the table in 2020.

An opening weekend 30-16 home defeat against the Sharks was followed by a 31-10 victory over the Cheetahs in Kimberley. It is worth taking into account that the Cheetahs squad was severely weakened due to COVID-19 infections. 

Nevertheless, Griquas were dominant throughout, especially at set pieces. They will need to match the Pumas in the tight phases if they are to get anything from their first away trip of the season.

Griquas have reported no injury concerns ahead of this clash.
