Western Province vs Cheetahs Preview & Tips - Upset on the cards as Cheetahs visit Newlands

Western Province and the Cheetahs are level at 5-5 in their last 10 matches. The last time they met was a few weeks ago where the Cheetahs won 38-21 at home.

Western Province are currently fifth on the Currie Cup table, three points off the Pumas in the final playoff position. They have been somewhat inconsistent this season.

Putting back to back results together has been a struggle for the Cape Town-based outfit. After beating the Sharks 32-31 a few weeks ago, Western Province lost their following two. 

Griquas came from behind to win 3028 at Newlands before the Cheetahs won 38-21 in Bloemfontein. Province bounced back to beat the Pumas 37-23 but lost 34-13 to the Bulls last weekend.

John Dobson has very few injury concerns to first choice players. The one guaranteed change will see Scarra Ntubeni missing out after his red card against the Bulls.

The Cheetahs are bottom of the Currie Cup table but do have a game in hand. Should they win this weekend they could jump to fifth, depending on other results.

It has been a strange season for the Free State side. Many expected them to challenge for the title, and they may yet do that. COVID infections has cost them dearly but there will be confidence having beaten Western Province convincingly in their previous match.

The Cheetahs last match was two weeks ago. They lost 47-30 at home to the Sharks in what was a shocking defensive performance.

The Cheetahs are well rested after having a bye last weekend. There are no confirmed injuries from the camp.
