Edinburgh vs Toulon Predictions

Edinburgh reached the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Champions Cup last season and are undefeated in their current URC campaign. Toulon reached the semi-finals of the competition but have struggled in the Top 14 this season.

  • Edinburgh have won 3 consecutive fixtures.
  • Edinburgh have won 4 of their last 6 home matches.
  • Edinburgh have won 3 consecutive games against Toulon.
  • Toulon have lost 6 consecutive away fixtures.
  • Toulon lost by 13 points away to Edinburgh last season.

Head to Head

Edinburgh have the advantage over Toulon, with three victories to none in three meetings.

Edinburgh defeated Toulon 33-20 during the group stages of last season's Investec Champions Cup.

Edinburgh Form

Edinburgh competed in the European Rugby Champions Cup last season, making the quarter-finals of the competition before losing 49-31 to Leinster.

Edinburgh currently occupy first place in the United Rugby Championship with 14 points after three matches.

The team from Scotland have contested three fixtures in the URC this season so far. They defeated Ulster 34-29 away, the Stormers 17-13 at home, and Zebre 29-12 away.

Edinburgh have been in great touch this season, winning all their fixtures, and they have a solid record against Toulon, having never suffered a defeat to their opponents in European rugby competitions.

Toulon Form

Toulon performed well in the Investec Champions Cup last season, reaching the semi-finals, where they lost 29-25 to Leinster.

RC Toulon have been inconsistent in the French Rugby Championship this season, sitting in tenth place in the standings with 12 points after six rounds.

In the Top 14, Les Rouge et Noir lost 27-26 away to Bayonne, 21-20 to La Rochelle at home, and 29-27 to Castres away, then defeated Vannes 28-10 at home, and lost 28-0 to Montpellier before defeating Racing 92 29-15 at home.

Toulon have lacked consistency in their domestic league so far, and have lost six consecutive away fixtures, which is not the ideal form to have when taking on Edinburgh at home, as they lost 33-20 away to their opponents last season.

Team News

Edinburgh

Head coach Sean Everitt has commented on the recent performances of the youngsters in the squad coming into their European Rugby Challenge Cup match against Toulon: “When you look at successful teams, there’s always going to be a heartbeat of the team or a core group of players that bring you through.

“At the moment, those youngsters are delivering. They’re very tight as a group; they get on well. The seniors coming back in have created competition so it feels like there’s a bit of an edge to us during the week.

“That edge is obviously necessary for us to perform at the highest level and to perform every day. The youngsters have brought the energy and on top of that they’ve brought performance, which has created depth in our squad.”

Winger Darcy Graham has recovered well from a bicep tear and could feature in their EPCR Challenge Cup clash against Toulon this weekend, alongside lock Grant Gilchrist.

Toulon

Tomas Albornoz has scored 33 points in this season's Top 14.

Mathis Ferte, Rayan Rebbadj, and Jean Baptiste Gros have each scored two tries in the league.
