  • Both teams to score as Villa continue to fire in Europe.
  • Goals to flow as Stuttgart down Slovan Bratislava.
  • Expect a tight contest between Shakhtar Donetsk and AEK Athens.
  • Manchester City’s strong home form to be too strong for poor travellers PSG.

Champions League Predictions, Round 2

Aston Villa vs Fenerbahce

Aston Villa will be confident of claiming three points at Villa Park after opening their Champions League campaign with a 3-2 victory over Club Brugge. Unai Emery’s side also recorded a 3-2 Premier League win at Tottenham, although their domestic form has been inconsistent.

Fenerbahce drew 1-1 with Roma in their European opener and have struggled for consistency, despite demonstrating their attacking potential with an 8-0 victory over Eyupspor.

Villa have the home advantage but their defensive vulnerabilities could make this closer than expected. With both sides capable of scoring the goals markets offer alternatives to backing Villa at short odds.

Slovan Bratislava vs Stuttgart

Stuttgart are strong favourites after opening their Champions League campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over Viking. The German side followed that with a 2-0 domestic win against Paderborn in their last match and have scored 14 goals across their last six matches.

Slovan Bratislava face a difficult recovery after suffering a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in their European opener. Their home advantage could help them compete, but Stuttgart possess considerably greater attacking firepower and have the quality to dominate possession and create chances.

A straightforward away victory offers limited returns, making a handicap selection more appealing for bettors expecting Stuttgart to win comfortably.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs AEK Athens

Shakhtar Donetsk face AEK Athens at Stamford Bridge in London, their temporary European home venue. The Ukrainian side opened their Champions League campaign with a respectable 1-1 draw away to PSV Eindhoven and have shown resilience despite being unable to play European matches at home.

AEK began with a 1-0 victory over LASK and have also recorded impressive domestic results, including a 5-0 thrashing of Aris and a 2-1 victory over Volos. Both sides have demonstrated defensive discipline, suggesting a competitive and potentially tight encounter.

With little separating the teams the goals market could provide better value than selecting an outright winner.

Manchester City vs PSG

Manchester City host reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in a heavyweight Champions League encounter. City have been outstanding under Enzo Maresca, winning their opening six Premier League matches and producing an emphatic 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield. They also began their European campaign with a 2-0 win against Porto.

PSG demolished Slovan Bratislava 6-1 in their Champions League opener and have recovered from an inconsistent domestic start with consecutive victories. Their form on the road is patchy, with just two wins and three defeats from their last seven away games.

Both sides possess exceptional attacking quality, making an entertaining contest likely. City's excellent form and home advantage give them a slight edge, although PSG have sufficient firepower to punish any defensive mistakes.

Verdict

I’m backing Aston Villa to win but concede against Fenerbahce, Stuttgart to be in the goals, few goals between Shakhtar Donetsk and AEK Athens, as well as a big home win for Manchester City over a strong PSG outfit.
