English Championship Predictions – 14 October 2026

Lincoln City vs West Ham

West Ham travel to Lincoln City in excellent form sitting third in the Championship with 16 points from nine matches. The Hammers have scored a league-high 23 goals, averaging 2.55 goals per game, with Jarrod Bowen among their leading attacking threats. They are unbeaten in four away fixtures, although three of those matches ended without victory.

Lincoln have slipped to 16th with 11 points and have struggled defensively at home, conceding six goals in four matches. Their last two league matches saw them lose 2-1 to Swansea and 3-0 to Sheffield United. West Ham's attacking strength makes them favourites, particularly against a Lincoln defence that has also conceded an average of 8.1 corners per match.

Goals look an attractive betting option, with West Ham capable of taking advantage of the hosts' defensive weaknesses.

QPR vs Derby County

QPR have enjoyed a considerably stronger start than Derby, sitting sixth with 14 points from nine Championship matches. The London club have lost just once this season and are among the division's most attacking sides, averaging 17.2 goal attempts per game.

Derby are languishing in 23rd spot after picking up just five points after losing five of their opening nine fixtures. However, they have won three of their last five meetings with QPR, including a 3-2 victory in April. QPR's most recent result was a 2-2 draw with Preston, while Derby drew 1-1 at Burnley.

Four of the last eight head-to-head encounters produced just one goal, suggesting that a low-scoring contest could offer value despite QPR's attacking approach.

Portsmouth vs Sheffield United

Two sides struggling for consistency meet at Fratton Park, with Portsmouth sitting 19th and Sheffield United four places above them. Portsmouth have eight points from eight matches while United have collected 12 from nine.

The hosts drew 2-2 with Blackburn before losing 1-0 to Southampton in their last two matches, while Sheffield United bounced back from two defeats in a row by beating Lincoln 3-0. Historically, the Blades have dominated this matchup, winning three of the previous five meetings and remaining unbeaten in their last four encounters. They have also scored in their last three away league matches.

Portsmouth have conceded seven goals in four home fixtures, although recent head-to-head results suggest this could be a tight contest. Five of the previous eight meetings produced fewer than two goals, making the lower-scoring markets worth considering. With Portsmouth failing to score in three of their last five matches I’m leaning towards a Sheffield win to nil.

Norwich vs Southampton

Goals could be plentiful when Norwich host Southampton in an intriguing Championship encounter. Norwich sit 18th with nine points from nine matches, while Southampton are 11th with 13. Both sides have demonstrated considerable attacking strength, with Norwich scoring 17 goals and Southampton 20.

Norwich have conceded 17 goals, including four in their latest 4-3 home defeat to Bolton. Mohamed Toure has scored five league goals for Norwich, while Southampton's Cyle Larin leads the division with seven. Southampton have scored in all nine league matches but have failed to win any of their four away fixtures.

Norwich average 2.5 goals scored and two conceded at home, making the goals markets particularly attractive. Another entertaining, high-scoring encounter looks a strong possibility.

Verdict

I’m backing a goal-heavy wins for West Ham and QPR, Portsmouth to go goalless against Sheffield United, while Norwich and Southampton to entertain with goals.
