Gloucester vs Clermont Predictions - Clermont backed for away win in Challenge Cup

Gloucester and Clermont have not met each other in recent seasons.

Gloucester are struggling on the field this season and currently sit second from bottom in the Rugby Premiership. They have won just two of their eight matches.

After beating Newcastle in the Rugby Premiership on 20 October, Gloucester lost six games on the bounce. They were also all reasonably heavy defeats bar the one-point defeat to Exeter.

Gloucester seriously need a boost to their season and last week they managed to scrape a 15-10 win away against Black Lion in the Challenge Cup. The performance was hardly noteworthy, but it was a victory the English side desperately needed.

After winning last week, Gloucester are expected to name a strong lineup as they attempt to go back-to-back for the first time this season.

Clermont have made a reasonably strong start to the season, both in the Top 14 and European Challenge Cup.

Last week, in the Challenge Cup opener, Clermont beat Edinburgh 31-18 on home soil. They were in control of the game from the start and hardly ever looked in trouble.

Prior to that, Clermont beat Racing 92 23-18 at home in the Top 14.

With a win under their belt in the Champions Cup already, Clermont will be looking for the crucial away win in the group this Friday. I do not expect many changes to their side.
