Canterbury produced an excellent first-half display against Southland last weekend, scoring four converted tries to lead 28-0 at the break.

Canterbury continued to pile on the points in the second half, scoring four tries and three conversions to thrash Southland 54-14 away from home. 

Before that performance, Canterbury defeated Wellington 33-15, Auckland 19-15, Bay of Plenty 21-7, Hawke's Bay 26-7, and Manawatu 53-14. 

Canterbury are first in the National Provincial Championship standings with 28 points from six games. 

Canterbury have been in fine fettle this season and have regularly defeated Tasman on their home turf, giving them the advantage to extend their unbeaten run in this season's NPC.

Tasman scored two converted tries in the first half against Auckland last weekend to lead by two points at half-time.

Tasman could only muster a converted try in the second half against Auckland, losing 29-21 at home. 

Before that, Tasman lost 37-7 to Bay of Plenty, beat Manawatu 47-17, Northland 28-14, and North Harbour 43-18 before losing 31-27 to Otago.  

Tasman are 6th in the National Provincial Championship table with 20 points from six matches. 

Tasman have been in decent nick this season but face a tough task playing Canterbury away from home, having lost five of their last six visits.
