Taranaki are on 20 points in third place but can ill afford a slip up now. There are three other teams below them on 20 points as well with everyone chasing second place.

Taranaki began the season on fire, winning their opening three matches comfortably against Northland, North Harbour and Auckland. Their first lost came in a 23-22 defeat at home to Waikato.

That defeat was followed by a 43-22 away win over Counties Manukau but last week Taranaki were poor at home, losing 43-17 to Bay of Plenty.
