Hawkes Bay have into the penultimate round of the NPC placed fifth on the table with 25 points. They have five wins and three defeats in their eight games to date.
A strong finish to the campaign over the next couple of weeks could see Hawkes Bay climb a couple of places if other results go their way. Last weekend, Hawkes Bay lost 38-24 away to Taranaki which saw them drop a position.
Prior to that defeat, The Bay beat Bay of Plenty away and Wellington at home. Three of their four home games have been won this season, only Canterbury visited Hawkes Bay and won.
Auckland Form
Auckland have endured yet another dire season in the NPC. They are 12th on the table with 15 points, still seven off the playoffs, so they are once again set to miss out. With just two wins in eight games, Auckland have little to play for.
What is, however, true is that Auckland lost their opening five matches and have won two of their last three. That should give them some confidence.
At the start of September, Auckland shocked Tasman away from home, winning 29-21 and backed it up with a 52-29 win over Manawatu a week later. Last week, Auckland came crashing back down to earth, losing 49-28 at Counties Manukau.
