Northland produced a solid first half against Canterbury last weekend, scoring three converted tries to lead 21-12 at half-time.

The Taniwha added two tries, a conversion and a penalty in the second half to beat Canterbury 36-12 away from home.

At the start of the season, Northland thumped Manawatu 40-14 at home and lost 34-21 away to Bay of Plenty before thrashing Taranaki 42-0 at home.

The Taniwha are second in the National Provincial Championship table with 17 points from four matches.

Northland have historically struggled to beat Tasman in recent meetings; however, they have been playing well this season, and are undefeated in their last five home games, which includes four victories and a draw.

Tasman Form

Tasman scored two tries and a conversion in the first half against Southland last weekend, going into the break with the score level at 12-12.

However, the home side were in fine form in the second half, scoring six tries and two conversions against Southland to easily win 46-17.

Before that, the Makos edged North Harbour 31-29 at home and lost 50-19 away to Hawke's Bay before beating Counties Manukau 50-35 away.

Tasman are sixth in the National Provincial Championship standings with 15 points from four games.

Tasman have been in solid form in the league so far, but they have lacked consistency on the road recently, suffering three defeats in their last five fixtures.
