Last updated: 56 minutes ago

This article provides predictions for the upcoming Premier League matches. Liverpool is set to win against Forest with a clean sheet. Bournemouth and Everton are expected to play out an entertaining score draw while Coventry vs. Hull is tipped to be a low-scoring tie for the fourth consecutive time. Newcastle is predicted to defeat Spurs, prolonging Tottenham’s poor run and moving up the league standings. Bettors and fans should watch for strong defensive performances and competitive ties this weekend.

English Premier League Predictions - 29 August 2026, Matchday 2

Liverpool vs Notts Forest

Liverpool have just one win in five and drew their opener away to Newcastle, although they were leading 2-1 deep into injury time, so they will feel confident against a Forest side that has failed to score in three of their last five games. The visitors have been goalless in their last two matches, losing 1-0 at home to Leeds in their Premier League opener and following it up with a 2-0 away defeat in the League Cup midweek, also to Leeds.

Forest beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield last season and they have the same record against each other in their last five matches, but Liverpool seem to be clicking into gear so I see this as a home win to nil.

Bournemouth vs Everton

Bournemouth gave Man City a real fright in their opener last weekend, only to lose 2-1 late in the day. They’ve conceded two goals in each of their last three matches, running out D-L-L, so while they are playing good football they aren’t closing things out.

Everton have three wins and a draw in their last five, scoring nine goals to six, and their last three results have been W-D-W. This has the flavour of a score draw and I wouldn’t be averse to calling for three goals or more.

Coventry vs Hull

Hull are on a relative steamer, with just one defeat in five and a run of D-W-W coming into this match. They’ve conceded just once in three matches, pulling off a great win in their Premier League opener at home to Man United (2-0), followed by a tough win on penalties midweek away to Stoke in the League Cup.

Coventry also have just one defeat in five, their loss coming away to defending champions Arsenal in the Premier League opening fixture (3-0), so no shame in that one. They beat Monaco (2-0) and Espanyol (3-1) ahead of their loss to Arsenal and bounced back with a 4-2 win over Plymouth in the League Cup midweek.

Not an easy one to call, although home ground could sway it for Hull. Although they have both been scoring goals, their last three matches have yielded just two goals in total as they two teams have drawn 1-1, 0-0 and 0-0, so I reckon they will grind out a draw or a win for Hull with two goals or less in the bank.

Spurs vs Newcastle

Newcastle played out three pre-season defeats on the bounce before a strong 2-2 home draw against Liverpool in their Premier League opener. Spurs had a good pre-season but were all at sea in their opener against Brentford, so I can’t see them offering Newcastle much resistance.

Newcastle have won three and drawn two of their last five matches against Spurs, so it sounds good to go with the form book for this clash.

Verdict

Liverpool to win with a clean sheet against Forest, Bournemouth and Everton to entertain with a score draw, while Coventry v Hull to play it tight for a fourth match in a row. Spurs to lose again as Newcastle move up the table.
