Editor
Last updated: 50 minutes ago

The upcoming Test match sees England as clear favorites, with strong expectations for Harry Brook and Joe Root to lead the scoring charts. Harry Brook is predicted to surpass 84.5 runs, while Abdullah Shafique is also set for a notable contribution. On the bowling front, Josh Tongue, after a stellar first Test, and Ali Usman (projected 3.5+ wickets) are tipped as main threats. Backing these key players promises value for those following betting odds and match predictions.

England vs Pakistan Predictions

England avoided a third consecutive Test defeat by destroying the Pakistan top order in the 1st Test. Pakistan have lost four of their last five Tests. Lord’s should offer mild, changeable weather, early seam movement and swing before improving for batters, with later wear possibly bringing spinners into play.

  • England’s Harry Brook has scored 49 & 91 in his last 2 knocks.
  • England’s Joe Root has scores of 31, 31 & 66 in his last 3 innings.
  • England’s Josh Tongue took 5/46 & 3/43 in the 1st Test.
  • Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique has scored 160*, 24*, 61 & 61 in 5 knocks.
  • Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq has scores of 37, 80* & 42 in his last 4 innings.
  • Pakistan’s Ali Usman has figures of 5/42 & 5/95 in his last 2 innings.

Head-to-Head

England have won three and lost two of their last five Tests against Pakistan.

England Form

England scored a commanding 409 in their only innings in the 1st Test, with Harry Brook top-scoring with 91 from 93 balls. Jordan Cox also impressed on his return, contributing a composed 73. Captain Joe Root continued his strong form with 66, while Dan Lawrence added a valuable 51 as England built a first-innings lead of 238.

The seam attack then took complete control. Ollie Robinson was outstanding, claiming 5/51 in the first innings and 3/29 in the second to finish with eight wickets and the Player of the Match award.

Josh Tongue matched his impact with 5/46 and 3/43, while Jofra Archer added three wickets in the second innings. England’s seamers shared all 20 wickets, repeatedly exposing Pakistan’s batting and wrapping up victory inside three days.

Pakistan Form

Their first innings never gained enough momentum as they were bowled out for 171. Abdullah Shafique top-scored with 61 from 104 balls, while Imam-ul-Haq added 42 at the top of the order. The rest of the batting line-up struggled badly against England’s seamers and failed to build meaningful partnerships.

Pakistan’s second innings brought more disappointment. Trailing by 238, they were dismissed for just 135. Mohammad Rizwan offered some lower-order resistance with 41, but once again the batting lacked consistency and application in difficult conditions.

With the ball, Ali Usman was Pakistan’s standout performer, taking 5/95 in England’s innings. Khurram Shahzad also claimed three wickets, but the attack struggled once England’s batters settled.

Pakistan will need far greater discipline with the bat and more sustained pressure with the ball if they are to level the series.

Team news

Pakistan head to Lord’s needing a strong response after being overwhelmed by England’s pace attack in the 1st Test. The defeat cost them valuable World Test Championship points and left them 1-0 down in the series. Pakistan will be hoping skipper Babar Azam will be passed fit to play after missing the 1st Test with a finger injury.

"Babar batted in the nets, faced fast bowlers, spinners and throwdowns. We're hopeful he will be available for the game and today he was looking good; he batted well in the nets. He had a full batting session," said Umar Gul, Pakistan's bowling coach, in a pre-match press conference.

England (possible XI): Ben Duckett, Emilio Gay, Jordan Cox, Joe Root (c), Harry Brook, Dan Lawrence, Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson, Ollie Robinson, Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue.

Pakistan (possible XI): Azan Awais, Imam-ul-Haq, Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel, Salman Agha (c), Mohammad Rizwan, Ali Usman, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Ali.

Verdict

England are strong favourites to win, with Harry Brook and Joe Root worth backing to be in the runs. Josh Tongue bowled superbly in the 1st Test and should pick up wickets in round two of the series.
