Namibia v Ireland 5th ODI Predictions - Frylinck and Erasmus to spearhead series win for Namibia

Editor
Last updated: 2 hours ago

Namibia and Ireland meet in the 5th ODI with the series tied at 2-2. Namibia are tipped to clinch the decider, driven by Gerhard Erasmus’s impressive batting performances, including scores of 156* and 54 in recent matches. Ireland, however, showed resilience by levelling the series with a 130-run win, highlighted by Jai Moondra’s 6/26 and Curtis Campher’s consistent run-scoring. Namibia’s predicted XI features a settled core, while Ireland remain without captain Paul Stirling due to injury. The match is set to be closely contested, with Namibia narrowly favoured.

Head-to-head

The sides have met just four times, all in this series, with both teams having claimed two wins.

Namibia Form

Namibia’s lost their grip on their 2-1 series lead after collapsing for 168 chasing Ireland’s 298/8 in the 4th ODI.

None of their top order scored above 23 but their batters have been in superb form in the series. Gerhard Erasmus has scored 22, 156* and 54 while Jan Frylinck has scored 76 and 126.

Namibia’s JJ Smit took 4/34 in the 4th ODI to follow up his 2/47 in the 1st ODI, while Erasmus has taken four wickets in the series at a low cost.

Ireland Form

Ireland recovered from the disruption of captain Paul Stirling’s finger fracture to post an imposing score of 298/8 in the 4th T20I.

In-form Tim Tector’s 73 set a platform for his side while Curtis Campher continued his runs spree with an-other impressive innings of 66 from 50 balls. George Dockrell finished unbeaten on 47 to set up a winning total.

Jai Moondra then ripped through Namibia’s batters in taking 6/26 as the hosts folded for 168 off 41 overs. The final game is now an opportunity for either side to claim a notable series victory.

Team news

Namibia have the option to stick with a familiar core featuring Louren Steenkamp, Jan Frylinck, Erasmus, Al-exander Volschenk, Zane Green, JJ Smit, Ruben Trumpelmann and Bernard Scholtz. Malan Kruger opened in the fourth game, while Smit’s 4/34 was a rare positive in an otherwise difficult outing. Ireland’s Paul Stirling is unavailable with a fractured finger so Lorcan Tucker captains the side.

Namibia (predicted XI): Malan Kruger, Louren Steenkamp, Jan Frylinck, Gerhard Erasmus (c), Alexander Volschenk, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Zane Green, JJ Smit, Ruben Trumpelmann, Bernard Scholtz, Jack Brassell.

Ireland (predicted XI): Andrew Balbirnie, Tim Tector, Cade Carmichael, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (c), Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Jordan Neill, Jai Moondra, Liam McCarthy, Matthew Humphreys.

Verdict

Namibia are back to clinch the series in a tight clash, with Gerhard Erasmus and Curtis Campher  back to be in the runs.
