English Premier League Predictions - Round 9

Editor
Last updated: 1 hour ago

Chelsea are tipped to beat Manchester United in Premier League Round 9, with both teams showing defensive vulnerabilities and Chelsea's attacking options expected to prove decisive, though a United revival is possible and team selection may be affected by the League Cup. Bournemouth are preferred to defeat Leeds United, buoyed by their 3-0 win at Old Trafford, while Leeds' lack of attacking threat could limit their chances. Brentford are narrowly favoured over Nottingham Forest, but a draw is plausible given both sides' recent form. Sunderland hold a slight edge over Coventry City in a likely low-scoring encounter.

English Premier League – Round 9

Chelsea vs Manchester United

Chelsea's 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham was compounded by Cole Palmer's sending-off, but his suspension is expected to be served in Wednesday's League Cup tie rather than this match. Joao Pedro is sidelined with a thigh injury and Chelsea have been vulnerable defensively, conceding 15 goals in their opening eight league games.

Manchester United are in a deep slump: Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson scored for Bournemouth in their 3-0 win at Old Trafford which extended United's miserable winless sequence. Joao Pedro's absence matters but the Blues have enough attacking quality to edge a high-pressure contest.

Bournemouth vs Leeds United

Bournemouth have suddenly found their cutting edge following a win against Sunderland and a memorable 3-0 demolition away to Manchester United. Rayan and Marcus Tavernier scored in the first half at Old Trafford before Evanilson sealed the result with his fourth goal in five matches.

Leeds drew 0-0 at Sunderland in their last league outing, a performance which illustrated their defensive discipline but showed little attacking punch. The Cherries should carry momentum into this contest although Leeds' compact shape may deny them the space they exploited against United.

Brentford vs Nottingham Forest

Brentford earned a 1-1 draw at Hull in Round 8, with Dango Ouattara equalising from Igor Thiago's assist. Their home form gives them a stronger platform against Nottingham Forest who needed a point at Ipswich to halt their recent slide.

Forest remain near the bottom of the early-season table and need more consistent attacking returns. Thiago offers a focal point for Brentford but a draw would not surprise given the visitors' need for points and the Bees' recent inability to turn opportunities into victories.

Coventry City vs Sunderland

Coventry have suffered difficult back-to-back Premier League defeats after losing 3-1 at Tottenham and then 1-0 at home to Fulham. Goals are at a premium for the Sky Blues who cannot afford another damaging setback. Sunderland stopped their own losing momentum with a 0-0 draw at home to Leeds, a welcome clean sheet even if it did little to solve their attacking problems.

The visitors have a modest edge in the match-result market but with both sides under pressure an attritional contest is the most plausible script.

Verdict

Sunderland look set for a win to nil, goals or be tight between Brentford and Forest, a win for Bournemouth and a Chelsea win over Man United with both teams to score.
