Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs Predictions - Sea Robbers to Down Amakhosi in the PSL

Orlando Pirates are tipped to win to nil against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby, based on their impressive defensive record of 29 clean sheets in their last 40 matches and five wins in the last six league meetings. While Kaizer Chiefs have shown some recent improvement with two consecutive victories, their attacking output has been inconsistent, especially in previous derbies. Both sides face injury concerns, but Pirates’ consistent form and defensive solidity make them the selection for a win to zero in this fixture.

Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs Predictions

Chiefs have shown signs of life in the last week, but Pirates are a ruthless machine. I see the hosts keeping yet another clean sheet in a victory over Amakhosi.

Key Stats – Pirates Backed for Victory

  • Orlando Pirates have won 32 of their last 41 matches.
  • Orlando Pirates have kept 29 clean sheets in their last 40 matches.
  • Kaizer Chiefs have lost 5 of their last 6 PSL matches vs Orlando Pirates.
  • Kaizer Chiefs have failed to score in 3 of their last 6 PSL matches vs Orlando Pirates.

Head to Head – Bucs Have Won Five of the Last Six League Meetings

In 105 previous meetings, Pirates have a 44-32 lead with 29 draws.

Pirates won five straight league clashes between the clubs before a 1-1 draw in the meeting in April 2026.

Pirates Churning Out Wins – 14 Victories in the Last 17 Matches

Pirates have lost just once in 17 matches this season, but that defeat came in the MTN 8 Cup Final. In league action, they have 22 points from eight rounds of action with just one goal conceded.

A 2-0 loss followed to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN 8 Final saw Bucs produce just one ‘big chance’. They beat TS Galaxy 3-0 at home and won 1-0 away to African Stars in the first leg of a CAF Champions League Group Stages qualifier.

They beat African Stars 4-0 in the second leg at home. In midweek, Pirates made light work of Milford in a 4-0 home victory in the Carling Knockout Cup.

Chiefs Form – Successive Wins After Five Draws in Six

Kaizer Chiefs have won their last two matches. Before that, they drew five of six matches in the league with one victory.

Chiefs drew 0-0 at Golden Arrows with just one shot on target before 1-1 home draw vs Stellenbosch. Amakhosi lost 1-0 away to Red Arrows in a CAF Confederations Cup qualifier.

They beat Red Arrows 1-0 in the second leg but were eliminated on penalties. Kaizer Chiefs responded superbly in midweek by beat TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup as striker Wandile Duba netting a hattrick in a dominant display.

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Orlando Pirates (4-2-3-1): Chaine; Sigomoshe, Seema, Sibisi, Hotto; Mbatha, Mokobodi, Selepe; Masilela, Radiopane, Moremi.

Orlando Pirates remain without right back Kamogelo Sebelebele due to injury. Sihle Nduli and Andre De Jong are absent in midfield with long-term injuries.

Winger Oswin Appollis could play some part as a substitute but fellow wide player Ghampani Lungu is doubtful. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou must decide between a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Kaizer Chiefs (4-2-3-1): Petersen; Frosler, Moloisane, Miguel, Mako; Mthethwa, Maboe; Vilakazi, Shabalala, Mmodi; Duba.

Goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner is ruled out with an injury. Thabiso Monyane is absent at right back but Inacio Miguel should be available in defence.

Adolf Mtasingwa and Siphesihle Ndlovu are injured in midfield and left winger Langelihle Phili will play no part. Defender Rushwin Dortley played his first match in 18 months in midweek and may not be able to start a second match in five days.

Verdict

I see Pirates winning this match. I see a win to zero in this Soweto Derby.
