Tasman vs Auckland Predictions

Tasman are huge favourites and part of me is surprised the handicap is only 10.5. Auckland showed some quality in the first two rounds but have been well off the pace since. I’m backing Tasman to comfortably cover the handicap.

Tasman have won four of their last five matches against Auckland. During the 2024 NPC season, Tasman won 31-17 at home.

Tasman Form

Tasman started the season poorly but have bounced back with four straight victories. They currently find themselves third on the table with 20 points, three points off top spot.

In the first round, Tasman were thrashed 37-7 by Bay of Plenty but have been very good since. They beat Manawatu comfortably in round two and saw off Northland 28-14 the following week.

North Harbour offered little challenge in round four as Tasman won 43-19 away from home. Last weekend was a tougher game at home to Otago but Tasman still managed a 31-27 victory.

Auckland Form

Auckland come into round six as one of only three teams that have yet to win a game in the NPC 2025. They have four bonus points which places them 12th on the table.

The season started quite well despite losing. In round one, Auckland could easily have been on the winning side as they lost 36-35 to Waikato. The following weekend, Auckland lost narrowly again, this time 19-15 to Canterbury.

Since then, however, things have gone badly wrong. Taranaki thrashed Auckland 50-8 in Auckland. They lost again at home the following week 43-24 to Northland. Last weekend, Wellington beat Auckland 36-17.

Verdict

Tasman v Auckland

Tasman are backed to cover the -10.5 handicap. There may even be value in backing them to win by more than 19.5 points.
