Romania vs Tonga Predictions - Romania to secure a home win against Tonga in Nations Cup

Romania are tipped to cover the handicap against Tonga in their upcoming World Rugby Nations Cup clash. Romania have won their last two home fixtures against Tonga and have shown reliable home form, with two wins in their last five matches at home. Tonga, meanwhile, have lost 12 consecutive away games, including a 25-15 defeat to Romania in 2024. This consistent home advantage for Romania and Tonga's ongoing struggles on the road make the handicap market the main recommendation for this fixture.

Romania vs Tonga Predictions

Romania have defeated Tonga at home in recent matchups and have had a decent start to their World Rugby Nations Cup campaign. Tonga are on a lengthy losing streak when playing away from home.

  • Romania have won 2 of their last 5 home fixtures.
  • Romania have won 2 consecutive home matches against Tonga.
  • Tonga have lost 12 consecutive away games.

Head to Head

Romania and Tonga each have three victories apiece in six meetings.

Romania Form

Romania started their World Rugby Nations Cup with a 48-31 loss to Chile and a 36-36 draw with Uruguay before edging Samoa 38-37.

The Stejarii are fourth in the European-African-Asian Pool with nine points from three matches.

Earlier this year, the Romanians contested the 2026 Rugby Europe Championship, losing 30-24 to Germany and beating Belgium 23-6 before losing 44-7 to Portugal during the group stages. They then lost 53-30 to Georgia in the semi-finals and 29-23 to Spain in the third-place play-off match.

Romania tend to play their best rugby on home soil, having won 2 of their last five fixtures in front of their loyal fans, and they have defeated Tonga twice in a row, giving them the edge to come out on top.

Tonga Form

Tonga had the perfect start to their World Rugby Nations Cup campaign, beating Zimbabwe 36-26 before suffering back-to-back defeats to Spain 32-19 and Portugal 32-28.

Ikale Tahi are fourth in the Americas-Pacific Pool with seven points after three rounds.

Before that, the Pacific Islanders faced Scotland towards the end of November last year, losing 53-0.

Tonga will have to improve their away form to have a chance of victory in Romania, as they have lost 12 consecutive fixtures, including a 25-15 defeat against their hosts in 2024.
