Sharks can cover -12 handicap against Lions at Kings Park (Getty images)
Sharks vs Lions Predictions
The Sharks are at home and will be tough to beat considering the Lions are so much weaker than when they beat the Sharks during the Currie Cup last season. It was impressive by the Sharks last week so I’m backing them to cover the -12 handicap here.
- Sharks won their last match 33-30.
- Sharks reached the final of the 2020 Currie Cup.
- Lions lost their last match by 13 points.
- Lions have a young squad with many first team players away.
Head to Head
The Sharks and Lions are level at 1-1 over their last two matches. The last match was won by the Lions 27-12 in the 2020 Currie Cup.
Sharks Form
The Sharks got their Rainbow Cup underway with an impressive victory over the Stormers at Newlands last week.
It was not looking good midway through the first half as the hosts rushed into a commanding lead, however the Sharks managed to come back into it. They were aided by the Stormers ill-discipline after the Cape franchise saw two red cards in the match.
They played 15 minutes of the match with 13 men and another 20 with 14 men. The Sharks did well to take advantage of that and claim a 33-30 away win.
Sharks Injuries & Team News
The Sharks are unchanged from last week. On the bench Jaden Hendrikse makes a return from injury.
Lions Form
The Lions were widely expected to struggle in the Rainbow Cup after a few of their top players moved away from the union.
Despite being very competitive in their first Rainbow Cup match against the Bulls, ultimately the Lions didn’t possess the quality to finish off the chances. In the second half a superior Bulls team pulled away to win 22-9.
Lions Injuries & Team News
The Lions have made four changes to their lineup from last week. Stean Pienaar is injured which sees former Cheetahs star, Rabs Maxwana start.
Wilhelm van der Sluys is also down injured so Reinhard Notnagel starts.

Verdict
Sharks should be too strong for a weakened Lions side on home soil. After their 13 point loss last week, I can see the Lions going down again. I am backing the Sharks to cover the -12 handicap.
