Argentina vs South Africa Predictions - Argentina can get close against Springboks

Argentina takes on South Africa in a vital rugby fixture, with the Springboks looking to maintain their momentum ahead of their All Blacks tour. South Africa brings a strong squad but features several returning players from injury, potentially causing some rustiness. While South Africa dominates the head-to-head record, Argentina’s home advantage and recent performances suggest they could cover the 18.5-point handicap. The key recommendation is to back Argentina in the handicap market despite the Springboks' impressive winning streak.

Argentina vs South Africa Predictions

While the Rugby Championship takes a break this year, this remains a key fixture for South Africa as they look to build momentum ahead of the All Blacks three-match tour. Rassie Erasmus has taken quite a few big names over to Argentina, so we can expect a strong side.

However, several players haven't played in green and gold this year due to injury, so expect some rustiness. I fancy Argentina to beat the +18.5 handicap at home.

  • Argentina won their last home match against South Africa.
  • South Africa have won their last 8 matches.
  • South Africa have won 11 of their last 12 matches against Argentina.

Head to Head

South Africa have won 11 of their last 12 games against Argentina. Last year, they beat Argentina twice - the first being a 67-30 drubbing in Durban before the Springboks won 29-27 at Twickenham.

Argentina Form

Argentina have become one of the powerhouses of world rugby in recent years, regularly defeating the top nations. However, 2026 has not been kind to them as they've lost two of their three Nations Championship games already.

In the first round, Los Pumas went down 47-38 at home to Scotland before bouncing back to beat Wales 35-21. In the third round, Argentina lost again, this time 31-24 to England at home.

South Africa Form

South Africa are the envy of world rugby at the moment with very few teams managing to compete. Ahead of the Greatest Rivalry Tour against the All Blacks, the Bokke will not want to lose momentum.

The Springboks won the Rugby Championship in 2025, which included a 43-10 thrashing of New Zealand in Wellington. They then went on to clean sweep the November tour, beating France, Wales, Italy and Ireland.

In the Nations Championship this year, South Africa cruised past England, beat Scotland, who put up a great fight, before sweeping Wales aside, 43-0.

Verdict

I expect South Africa to win but the 18.5 handicap is steep with a few players returning from injury. Argentina are backed in the handicap market.
