France came into the 2025 World Rugby Championship as favourites to win the title. However, they surprisingly fell at the semi-final stage.
The French U20 side won the U20 Six Nations earlier this year, setting them on the path for world glory. They looked strong in the group stage as well, beating Spain 49-11, Wales 35-21 and Argentina 52-26.
However, in the semi-final, France ran into another in-form side, New Zealand. It was a cracking contest, one befitting of a semi-final, but the Baby All Blacks won the game 34-26 to put France in the third-place playoff.

The disappointment will still be raw for France after losing the semi-final. I expect them to make wholesale changes for this game to give fringe players a last game.
Argentina U20 Form
Argentina U20 have had a solid side for the last few years, consistently producing good young players, but never really threatening the big nations. This year in much the same.
After losing all three U20 Rugby Championship matches earlier this season, Argentina were not given much of a chance. They beat Wales U20 24-17 in their opener before struggling past Spain 33-30. Argentina lost 52-26 to France in the final group match.
However, Argentina did enough to end as the best second placed side, so they qualified for the cup semi-final. There they lost 48-24 to South Africa.
