Ireland vs Australia Predictions - Ireland to cover against Wallabies

In the upcoming match between Ireland and Australia, Ireland is expected to cover the -10.5 handicap, despite not being at their best. Ireland has historically performed well against Australia, winning the past four encounters by small margins. Their recent form includes a third-place finish in the Six Nations and mixed results against strong opponents like New Zealand and Japan. Meanwhile, Australia has struggled due to injuries and a demanding schedule, losing eight of their last twelve games. Their inconsistency and lack of depth might make it difficult to mount a significant challenge to Ireland this time around.

Ireland vs Australia Predictions

Ireland beat Australia by three points at home last season but this time around it may be different. Ireland are nowhere near their best but the Wallabies have fallen off a cliff. While a big performance from the Aussies is possible, it is far more likely that Ireland covers the -10.5 handicap.

  • Ireland have won their last 4 matches against Australia.
  • Ireland have won 10 of their last 12 matches.
  • Australia have lost 8 of their last 12 matches.
  • Australia have lost 5 of their last 6 matches.

Head to Head

Ireland lead 9-2 in their last 11 matches against Australia. The last four have all been Ireland wins but the biggest margin in those four games has been five points.

Ireland Form

Ireland are in a strange place now and their performances have shown that over the last two weeks. This is a game that Ireland have little to gain in terms of World Ranking, but defeat could prove very costly.

A third-place finish in the 2025 Six Nations was not ideal for the Irish although they lost just one game. Against New Zealand in the USA a fortnight ago, Ireland looked to have the game controlled, but they failed to make their dominant periods turn into points.

In the final quarter, New Zealand found their rhythm and momentum went their way, which saw Ireland lose 26-13 after leading 13-7 for a large period.

That result as followed by another stuttering performance against Japan last Saturday. Ireland won the game 41-10 but the scoreline does not quite do Japan justice.

Caelan Doris will captain Ireland while Mack Hansen starts at fullback and Sam Prendergast returns to start at flyhalf.

Australia Form

Where is the Australia from a few months back? You know, the one that beat South Africa at Ellis Park? The Wallabies performances have fallen off a cliff recently.

Australia could only beat Japan 19-15 at the end of October before losing 25-7 to England at Twickenham. Last week, the Wallabies faltered again, losing 26-19 to Italy, suffering their second successive loss to the Italians.

The reason for this is two-fold. Joe Schmidt has a few injury problems to key players and some combinations are not settled at all with the chopping and changing. But, perhaps more telling, is the fact that with a smallish squad, Australia have endured a far tougher year than most others.

While South Africa was cruising part Italy and Georgia in July, New Zealand were seeing off a second and third string French side, Australia had the very tough series against the B+I Lions. That was followed by the Rugby Championship and now the November tour.

It may just be a few games too far for a squad that doesn’t quite have the depth. Unfortunately, unless a few players really put in huge efforts on Saturday, it isn’t changing this weekend.

Australia Injuries & Team News

Expect some changes from Australia considering how poor they have been. James O’ Connor has also been called up to add some experience and may be on the bench.
