This should be a good contest but given the form of the sides, I am banking on Spain to get within 16 points.

Rugby is growing in Spain and as interest starts to peak, performances start improving. At U20 level, Spain can be quite competitive, and they have shown that thus far.

The Spanish lost their opening game 49-11 to France, however, it was quite tight for the opening half of the game. An excellent performance followed as Spain narrowly lost 33-30 to Argentina.

In their final group fixture, Spain went down 35-25 to Wales. Despite losing all three games, there was plenty of quality on show. In the semi-final for the ninth-place playoff, Spain were poor, losing 43-12 to Georgia, but they did miss a few of their top players.

I expect Spain to make wholesale changes. They looked tired last time out.

Ireland U20 Form

Ireland have had an atrocious year at U20 level. They finished bottom of the 2025 Six Nations table and have once again failed miserably at the World Championships.

In the group stage, Ireland scraped to a 35-28 win over Georgia, a result that could easily have gone the other way. The Irish then suffered an 18-16 loss to Italy for the second time this year before going down 69-22 to New Zealand.

Entering the ninth-place semi-final, Ireland would have wondered how they had fallen so far after such a good 2024. However, it was to get worse as the Irish lost 22-21 to Scotland in a dramatic finish.

Ireland simply needs to get a win in this fixture to avoid embarrassment. Expect them to put out a strong side.
