Scotland vs France Predictions

France are favourites with a handicap of three, but after last weeks performances, I fancy Scotland to do the business at home. While the French have a couple of wins at Murrayfield in recent years, it is a place that they do often struggle.

I am backing Scotland to get within three points and don’t rule out the possibility of the Scots taking the victory.

  • France lost by 21 points at home last weekend.

Head to Head

France have won three of their last five games against Scotland. They last met in two World Cup warmup games last year with Scotland winning 25-21 at home and losing 30-27 away.

Scotland Form

Scotland got their Six Nations off to a strong start with a 27-26 victory over Wales at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. At one point it looked like Scotland were going to run away with the game, but a fightback by the hosts caused a very nervy finish.

In the first half, the Scots made Wales look rather ordinary, scoring two converted tries and two penalties. That put them 20-0 up at the break. Another converted try just minutes after the break saw them take a 27-0 lead…all over, right? Wrong!

Wales came back strong from the 50th minute three converted tries and one unconverted. By the 68th minute, there was only a point in it but Scotland held the hosts out for the remaining 12 minutes.

Scotland Injuries & Team News

Scotland have a few injury concerns but it is not clear yet who will miss this weekend. I don’t see them making any unforced changes despite a poor second half display against Wales.

France Form

France would have been hoping to reclaim the Six Nations tight this year that Ireland took last year. However, they are on the backfoot early after losing at home to Ireland last weekend.

The French were outplayed from the off in their 38-17 defeat. Ireland put massive pressure on the hosts early on and France never seemed to recover. France looked far from the side that featured before and at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Paul Willemse was red carded which made matters worse for France, but we will be doing Ireland a disservice if we don’t admit that before France were down to 14 men, they were never really in the game.

France Injuries & Team News

Paul Willemse will miss the game through suspension, but it would be very surprising if France don’t ring the changes anyway. They were way off the pace in the opener.

Verdict

Scotland are to get within three points and perhaps win against the odds.
