Stormers vs New Zealand Predictions - All Blacks to dismantle Stormers

The Stormers, despite a strong domestic campaign, face a formidable New Zealand side in Cape Town. Lacking many key Springbok players, the Stormers must rely on emerging talent, with standout Evan Roos aiming to impress. The All Blacks, under new coach Dave Rennie, bring a Test-level lineup and solid momentum from recent wins. The prediction strongly favors New Zealand to cover a -32.5 handicap, reflecting their strength and depth. The key takeaway: expect a comfortable All Blacks victory against a depleted Stormers squad.

Stormers vs New Zealand Predictions

The Stormers will be up for this game and have some quality players within their squad, but over 80 minutes, what is essentially a Test quality side of the All Blacks, should win comfortably. I am backing the visitors to cover the -32.5 handicap.

  • Stormers finished 4th in the 2025/26 URC.
  • Stormers are missing their international players.
  • New Zealand have won their last 3 matches.

Head to Head

There is no real head-to-head to speak of in this fixture. In the 1920s, the Stormers, then Western Province, did beat New Zealand twice.

Stormers Form

The Stormers had a good campaign in the URC this year, losing out in the semi-finals to Leinster. Their home form once again carried them, but we must consider that during the URC they had the majority of their Springbok players available.

However, this is an exciting opportunity for numerous players within the Stormers squad, many of whom are looking to impress and get back into Springbok contention. Perhaps none more so that Evan Roos, who has been a standout player for the Stormers but hasn't quite cracked it at Test level.

Yaqeen Ahmed, making his debut at flyhalf also has a great opportunity to mix it up with the best in the world, as he comes up against two-time World Rugby Player of the Year, Beauden Barrett.

New Zealand Form

The All Blacks, under new coach, Dave Rennie, have won all three matches this year, beating France, Italy and Ireland. It hasn't been smooth sailing for the side though but that wasn't expected given the change in coaching staff.

Obviously the result in important here as a defeat to a young Stormers side will send a negative message ahead of the Test series, however, most important will be testing some combinations. Barrett makes his first start at 10 this year for the All Blacks, and he will want to stake a claim for that jumper ahead of the Test matches.

This is a Test quality side from New Zealand and while many of the combinations are untested this season, if they click into gear, it should be a comfortable victory.

Verdict

I am backing New Zealand to cover the -32.5 handicap in Cape Town on Friday.
