The Chiefs got their season underway with a fine performance last weekend, beating the Crusaders 33-29 on home soil. After losing the 2023 final to the same opposition, it would have been sweet revenge.

However, the Chiefs will know better than anyone that form counts for little after they dominated the 2023 round robin stage. They should once again be around the top of the table, but the question they will need to answer is whether they can get over the line when it counts.

At home the Chiefs are a particularly tough nut to crack. They dominated the first half last week but couldn’t maintain that intensity for the full 80 minutes. This week they will be looking at improving that.

The Brumbies were expected to win last weekend but the manner in which they did should send some concern to opposition teams. They were clinical against the Rebels, picking up a bonus point along the way.

Up front the Brumbies are a match for anyone. They controlled the game against the Western Force with immaculate precision, cruising to a 30-3 victory.

The Canberra-based outfit will know the Chiefs are a very different proposition though. While they are certainly capable of causing an upset, any bonus point will be acceptable from their perspective.
