This promises to be a very tight contest in the Top 14. Both sides got off to excellent starts last weekend which makes this a mouthwatering prospect.

Bordeaux have won three of their last five games against Lyon. Last season, Lyon won 27-10 at home but lost 46-10 at the Begles.

Four of the last five matches between these sides have been won by the team at home. The only away win int eh last five came when Bordeaux won 32-25 away in the 2022/23 season.

Lyon Form

Lyon had a pretty average season last time out, finishing 11th on the Top 14 table. They still managed 12 wins from their 26 games which isn’t a horrific return.

This time around, Lyon will be hoping for a better season, perhaps a challenge for the playoffs. They made a good start on that quest, winning 26-22 at Montpellier in round one last weekend.

It was one of only two away wins in the Top 14 last weekend which in itself tells a story. The tournament is probably the toughest in the provincial game and winning away from home has huge benefits down the line.

Lyon Injuries & Team News

Lyon were excellent last weekend but will have to back it up at home against a strong Bordeaux outfit. I expect Lyon to be at full strength, depending on the injury updates later this week.

Bordeaux Form

Bordeaux had a fine 2023/24 season, finishing third in the Top 14 with 15 wins and 11 defeats. It was their best season in a few years, and they will want to back that up this season.

All the early signs point to another good season incoming as Bordeaux won 46-26 at home against Stade Francais in round one. Considering that Stade Francais finished second last season, that was an impressively dominant performance from the Begles.
