Nigeria has finalized its 28-man squad for the upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, cutting 26 players from the original roster. Notable absentees are Nottingham Forest's fullback Ola Aina due to injury and big-name strikers such as Christantus Uche and Taiwo Awoniyi. Despite these omissions, a strong team featuring players like Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze has been assembled. Coach Eric Sékou Chelle faces challenges but aims for an impressive tournament performance.

Nigeria have announced their final 28-man squad for the upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. From the original 54-man provisional roster, 26 players were trimmed.

Aina Injured

One key player left out by coach Eric Sékou Chelle is Nottingham Forest fullback, Ola Aina. After a torn hamstring in September’s FIFA break, he is yet to return to full fitness.

Another shock absentee is Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye. He last featured for the Super Eagles in June, and his omission is even more surprising as Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali is not fully fit.

Big Name Strikers Left Out

Nigeria is blessed with superb depth in attack. Crystal Palace striker Christantus Uche, Wolves target man Tolu Arokodare and Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi are all left out.

There is also no room for Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface and Celtic forward Kelechi Iheanacho.
