The match between Libya and Nigeria was scheduled to kick off at 21:00 (SAST) on Tuesday, 15 October. It will now not go ahead.

The Nigerian Super Eagles will boycott the return leg of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya. They were reportedly left stranded at the airport for 12 hours.
What CAF Said on Monday
CAF have released a statement on the “disturbing and unacceptable experiences” of the Nigeria Football Team upon their arrival in Libya for an AFCON qualifier. It read as follows:
“CAF views the disturbing and unacceptable experiences of the Nigerian National Football Team (“Super Eagles’’) at an airport in Libya in a very serious light,” the statement read.
“CAF has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land by the Libyan authorities.
“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations.”
Libya Threatens Legal Action
The Libyan Football Federation has condemned the Nigeria national team’s decision to withdraw from the scheduled 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Libya on Tuesday, threatening to take legal action.
They had the following to say: “The Libyan Football Federation condemns the measures taken by the Nigerian Football Federation by refusing to play the Libya-Nigeria match in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, stressing that it will take all legal measures to preserve the interests of the Libyan national football team.”
CAF Issues Statement
On the day of the match, CAF issued the following statement to confirm the postponement of Libya vs Nigeria.
CAF’s website carried the following message:
The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Qualifier fixture between Libya and Nigeria will not take place as scheduled tonight. The matter will be referred to the competent CAF bodies.
