Uganda vs Nigeria AFCON Predictions

The Nigerian Super Eagles have been superb at AFCON thus far, winning both of their matches. While they are already through to the next round, I am backing them to make in a full house of nine points.

  • Uganda have lost 3 of their last 5 matches.
  • Nigeria have won 4 of their 6 matches against Uganda.
  • Nigeria have won 6 of their last 9 competitive matches.

Head to Head

Nigeria have won four of their last six matches against Uganda with one draw. Their last meeting was in 2018, a match that ended goalless.

Uganda Form

Uganda had a decent World Cup qualifying campaign but couldn’t get it done. They lost twice to Algeria who finished seven points clear at the top of Group G.

Paul Put’s side had one shot on target against Tunisia in their opening match at AFCON. It came in added time, Denis Omedi’s consolation goal coming too late as the lost 3-1 in Rabat.

The Red Devils fell behind against Tanzania with Uche Ikpeazu coming off the bench to equalise. Allan Okello had a chance to put them ahead from the penalty spot, but he blazed over the bar in added time.

Nigeria Form

Nigeria failed to qualify for the World Cup but sneaked into the second round. They secured a 4-1 extra time win over Gabon in the semi-finals but lost to DR Congo in the final, going down in a penalty shootout.

The Super Eagles started AFCON with a 2-1 win against Tanzania. They ended with 59% possession and 11-3 shots on target, Alex Iwobi assisting goals for Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman.

Lookman was influential against Tunisia, assisting Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi before scoring himself to establish a 3-0 lead. Eric Chelle’s side conceded twice but closed it out to secure a 3-2 victory and a spot in the Round of 16.
