South Africa vs Mauritius Predictions

Mauritius have been solid in their two opening games with successive 0-0 draws while South Africa have won one and lost one. Both need a result in this game to guarantee progression. My best bet is for the hosts to take a 1-0 victory.

Head to Head

The last two games between these sides have both seen South Africa win.

South Africa Form

South Africa are in great form overall but this is a very young squad that is featuring at the COSAFA Cup. Not one player from the World Cup qualifiers earlier this year is in the squad.

It showed in the COSAFA Cup opener as Bafana Bafana went down 1-0 to Mozambique. Given the success of the hosts in previous editions of the tournament, they would have been keen to get back on track.

They did just that last time out, beating Zimbabwe 2-0. Kabelo Dlamini gave South Africa the lead from the penalty spot just before the break while Ime Okon sealed the win in the 78th minute.

South Africa Squad

Goalkeepers: Mondli Mpoto, Olwethu Mzimela, Samukelo Xulu
Defenders: Thabang Matuludi, Keanu Cupido, Thabo Moloisane, Rushwin Dortley, Athenkosi Mcaba, Malebogo Modise, Sergio Kammies
Midfielders: Brooklyn Poggenpoel, Antonio van Wyk, Jaedin Rhodes, Ethan Brooks, Liam Bern
Forwards: Devin Titus, Mfundo Thikazi, Asanele Velebayi, Tshepang Moremi, Ashley Cupido, Thabang Sibanyoni, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Yanela Mbuthuma

Mauritius Form

Mauritius are still searching for their first win in eight matches. Their last seven have failed to see them win.

The last time Mauritius tasted victory was at home to Eswatini in June 2024. Since then, they have drawn four and lost three.

The last three games have all ended in draws which include the opening two COSAFA Cup games. In their opener, Mauritius drew 0-0 against Zimbabwe and got the same scoreline against Mozambique last time out.

Mauritius Squad

Goalkeepers: Kevin Jean-Louis, Loïc Michel, Jininio Darbon
Defenders: Wilson Mootoo, Jordan François, Lindsay Rose, Dylan Collard, Pascal Colin, Brandon Citorah, Bradley Antoine, Rosario Latouchent
Midfielders: Adel Langue, Fabrice Brasse, Cooper Legrand, Gabriel Caliste, Linley Rita, William François
Forwards: Adrien Botlar, Yannick Aristide, Jason Ferré, Stephan De Robillard, Angel Arthé

Verdict

I am backing South Africa to come away with the points via a 1-0 win.
