South Africa vs Mozambique Predictions

South Africa have shown great resilience of late and have not conceded a single goal in their last four fixtures. Our best bet is under 2.5 goals and a home victory at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday afternoon.

  • South Africa have won 7 of their last 11 home matches (all competitions).
  • South Africa have kept 4 clean sheets in their last 4 matches (COSAFA Cup).
  • South Africa have seen under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 10 home matches (all competitions).
  • Mozambique have lost 5 of their last 8 matches (all competitions).
  • Mozambique have failed to score in 5 of their last 7 matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

South Africa hold a 3-0 advantage against Mozambique across four previous meetings with one draw.

The sides last met in a friendly in 2016 as the match ended 1-1 in Mozambique.

South Africa Form

Bafana Bafana are five matches unbeaten since their failed AFCON 2022 qualification campaign.

A 3-2 win against Uganda was followed by successive 1-0 victories in the COSAFA Cup against Botswana and Eswatini. South Africa then beat Lesotho 4-0 as debutant Victor Letsoalo scored a hat-trick.

With a 24 hour turnaround, Bafana Bafana rested a number of players for their last match against Zambia. An uneventful match ended goalless after 90 minutes but the hosts had already qualified for the semi's.

Strikers:  Thabang Sibanyoni, Monnapule Saleng, Kagiso Malinga, Victor Letsoalo

South Africa rested several key players against Zambia including goalkeeper Veli Mothwa and top centre-back Rushine De Reuck.

Caretaker coach Morena Ramoreboli will likely recall Victor Letsoalo after his hat-trick on debut against Lesotho. Mamelodi Sundowns’ Lebohang Maboe and Sphelele Mkhulise will start in midfield.

Mozambique Form

Mozambique came into the COSAFA Cup having not won in five matches. They started their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Zimbabwe, a match in which Mozambique missed a number of early chances.

A 1-0 defeat to Senegal followed before winning 2-0 against Malawi. Vitinho and Francisco Simbine netted in that fixture.

Mozambique's Melque Alexandre scored in the 81st minute in their last match against Namibia to secure a 1-0 win. That result secured them a semi-final spot.

Mozambique Injuries & Team News

Goalkeepers: Ernan Siluane, Victor Guambe
Defenders: Cigano, Francisco Simbine, Danilo, Martinho, Pelembe, Macaime
Midfielders: Shaquille, Abel Nhantumbo, Candinho, Jesus, Salas, Nilton, Mapangane

Coach Horacio Goncalves could hand a start to forward Melque Alexandre after his winner in the last match. Macaime picked up an injury in the last match and is a doubt ahead of the semi-final.

Top defender Francisco Simbine could also miss out after hobbling off injured in the win against Namibia.
