English League Cup Predictions

Wrexham vs Reading

Wrexham’s literal Hollywood-style success story has taken them to the Championship, where they sit four points off the playoff places. Reading are one point off the drop-zone in League One and have lost two of their last three matches. Wrexham have won three in four and will have marked the League Cup as another step in their ladder to the top, so they will go full-strength at Reading and should be too tough for them.

Wolves vs Everton

Wolves are going through a horror run, having lost five from five in the Premier League. Everton sit 10th in the EPL and have won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five matches. That loss was away to Liverpool, where they gave a good account of themselves, so they will be eager to make Wolves suffer an Everton backlash.

Wigan vs Wycombe

A League One match-up should go Wigan’s way as they’re above Wycombe on the league table, but I’m backing Wycombe, as they’ve won their last two matches against Wigan. Wycombe have also won two of their last three matches, while Wigan have only one win in five. Both sides have been finding the net (and conceding) regularly, so I’m backing both teams to score.

Barnsley vs Brighton

Hosts Barnsley are sixth in League One, while Brighton are down in 14th spot in the Premier League. Brighton picked up a great win against Man City and smashed Oxford 6-0 in the League Cup, totalling 11 goals in their last four matches. Barnsley have won four from six, but I can’t see them beating Brighton. A home draw, however, could be on the cards.
