English Championship Predictions - Matchday 29

Birmingham vs Stoke


Stoke are pressing for a place in the playoffs, but they won’t have it easy away to a Birmingham side that has won three and drawn one of its last four matches. Stoke have picked up just one point from their last two matches in the Championship, drawing 0-0 with QPR and losing 2-1 to Boro… with both matches at home.

Birmingham are undefeated in eight matches at home in the Championship, winning five of those games. Stoke aren’t strong on the road, losing four of their last six away matches.

Bristol City vs Sheffield Wednesday


Wednesday look unlikely to break-even with points by the end of the season after being penalised 18 points. They’ve won just a single game and drawn eight matches this season (including losing their last five on the bounce) so they are easy pickings.

Bristol are one win short of the playoff places, so a big win against whipping boys Wednesday is a must, especially at home. Bristol have won four of their last eight matches and have lost just three of their last 10 home games. The Robins have scored 14 goals to 5 in their last five home games, so I sense a big win for the home side.

Leicester vs Oxford United


Oxford are fighting for survival in second-last spot on the table, five points behind 21st-placed Portsmouth. They’ve lost two and drawn two of their last four games in the Championship, so their prospects aren’t bright. 

Leicester aren’t out of the playoff equation but they have lots to do make their way into the top six. They’ve won four of their last six home games, averaging two goals per game. Oxford are winless in their last six games on the road, including four defeats and just four goals. 

Sheffield United vs Ipswich


United are just four points clear of the drop zone and aren’t looking strong. Ipswich are in great form and, with a game in hand over second-placed Boro, could move into that automatic promotion spot with a win at Sheffield.

Ipswich have won their last five matches and are undefeated in seven matches, while Sheffield have lost their last three on the bounce. United have failed to score in their last two matches, while Ipswich have scored two or more goals in each of their last five games.

Verdict

Birmingham to beat struggling Stoke and Bristol to batter Wednesday.

Leicester to pick up a comfortable win over Oxford, while Sheffield United look set to lose big against Ipswich.
