Southampton vs Leicester

Southampton are 16th but only three points behind Leicester in 10th, which tells you everything about how tight this promotion race is. Leicester have dominated the recent head-to-head, winning all four of the last four meetings, but their away displays in the Championship have been much less convincing than at the King Power. With St Mary’s under the lights and the Foxes missing Luke Thomas through suspension, I’m leaning towards the Saints edging a high-tempo, one-goal game rather than the draw the models are leaning to.

Swansea vs Derby

Swansea have slid to 20th with just 17 points on the board and four defeats and a draw in their last five matches, so new boss Vítor Matos walks straight into a pressure cooker in South Wales. Derby are up in 12th, six points better off, and have won three of their last five away trips, so they won’t fear the journey. Swansea have won their last three matches against Derby at home, but with confidence low and the Rams solid on the road, I fancy Derby to edge a tight, nervy contest.

Norwich vs Oxford Utd

It’s 23rd vs 21st at Carrow Road, with Norwich stuck on nine points and Oxford only five better off – proper relegation-zone six-pointer territory. Norwich have lost 67% of their league matches so far and have lost three of their last four matches against Oxford, who themselves have dropped three of their last four away games. New Norwich gaffer Philippe Clement badly needs a first home win, and with both sides cautious and under pressure, I’m leaning towards a scrappy Norwich victory decided by a single goal rather than anything spectacular.

Middlesbrough vs Coventry

Top plays second at the Riverside, with Coventry seven points clear after an 11-win, one-defeat start and a huge plus-28 goal difference, while Boro chase them on 30 points. Middlesbrough have won four of their last six at home in the league, but Coventry have won their last three way matches against ‘Boro and come in as comfortably the Championship’s most dangerous attack. With new boss Kim Hellberg watching on before formally taking charge, I can see Boro playing their part in a cracking game – but on current form it still feels like Coventry have just enough to nick another statement away win.

The Saints to snip the Foxes by a single goal, while Swansea to take another defeat on the chin.

Norwich to pick up vital win over Oxford Utd, Middlesbrough to suck up another loss against Coventry.
