Preston vs Swansea
Preston have eight bodies on the treatment table, so their resources are being stretched thin. They’ve won their last two matches on the bounce and three of their last five (W-L-L-W-W), while Charlton have just one win in five (D-L-W-L-D). Preston are sitting in 6th place on the table, while Swansea are down in 16th place… but Swansea have won three of their last five against Preston, with one draw. This will be tight, but the home side should edge it.
QPR vs Southampton
Saints are teetering on the edge of the drop zone, while QPR are two wins short of the playoffs, so plenty to play for in this match. At home QPR should be all over this, but Southampton have won their last four matches against Rangers. Both sides have lost three of their last four games… so this feels like an upset loading for the visitors, which is a brave bet but one that could carry many positive blessings.
Sheffield Wed vs Norwich
There might not seem to be much interest in this match-up between the two bottom sides in the Championship. Both sides have eight players sidelined and Sheffield are still chipping away at their 12-point ‘fine’. Wednesday have scored seven goals in their last three games against Norwich (W-W-D), and their recent form (1 W, 3 D, 4 L) is better than Norwich (7 defeats in 8). Wednesday come into this match on the back of a hard-fought 0-0 draw against West Brom, while Norwich suffered their sixth defeat on the bounce, losing 2-0 at home to Hull. Norwich look to have a serious lack of confidence, wasting five great scoring opportunities in the box. Home side by two goals, possibly 2-0
Portsmouth vs Wrexham
Pompey’s minus-seven goal difference hints at a Wrexham win, the Welsh side scoring six in their last four matches (W-D-L-W), while Portsmouth have scored just twice in their last four matches (D-L-L-L). Portsmouth were woeful in their 4-0 hammering by Birmingham on the weekend, while Wrexham were excellent value for their 3-2 win over top-of-the-table Coventry. I’m backing Wrexham to score another three in a comfortable win over Portsmouth
Verdict
Preston to see off Swansea, QPR to trip up against the Saints.
Sheffield Wednesday to score a vital win, Portsmouth to get hit hard by Wrexham.
