English Championship Predictions - 7 March 2026, Matchday 36

Editor
Last updated: 4 hours ago

Predictive analysis for English Championship's Matchday 36 suggests that Charlton and Birmingham are likely to draw due to their recent unsteady performances. Swansea is expected to capitalize on Stoke City's poor away form with a home win, potentially by a clean sheet. Sheffield United is anticipated to dominate West Brom, who are struggling near the relegation zone. Lastly, Derby has a significant opportunity for a decisive win against a relegated Sheffield Wednesday, possibly scoring multiple goals.

English Championship Predictions - Matchday 36

Charlton vs Birmingham

Neither side is in great form in recent weeks, with Charlton picking up just two points in their last four games. Birmingham have a win in their last four games, but they lost the other three matches. Birmingham had an eight-match unbeaten streak ahead of their three losses, while Charlton’s last 10 games have yielded just three wins.

Birmingham have been strong on the road, winning four and drawing one before losing their last match away to Millwall. Charlton are inconsistent at home, losing four of their last seven matches with a goals ratio of 5-10. The teams have shared just 15 goals combined in their last 10 meetings, so this should be a low-scorer.

Swansea vs Stoke City

Two teams stuck in mid-table with not much to play for over the next two months. Swansea have four wins and a draw in their last eight, while Stoke have just one win and five defeats in their last 10 matches (going goalless in four), so they are looking ripe for the picking.

On the road Stoke have been goalless in five of their last 10 matches, netting just six times. Swansea have built up a mini-fortress at the Swansea.com Stadium since December, winning seven of their last nine matches, drawing the other two.

Swansea have also conceded just three goals in their last five home matches, so considering Stoke’s poor goal-scoring record on the road, this sounds like a win to nil for Swansea.

Sheffield Utd vs West Brom

West Brom are one point off the drop zone after just nine wins in 35 games. They also have the second-worst goal difference in the Championship (minus-18). West Brom are winless in their last 12 games in the league, losing eight of those games and failing to score six times.

Sheffield have lost just twice in eight Championship games, winning five and drawing once. West Brom have lost 12 and drawn two of their last 14 matches on the road in the league, so this should be like shooting fish in a barrel for Sheffield.

Sheffield have lost just twice in the Championship in their last 11 games, winning seven and drawing twice. They’ve scored 30 goals in their last 15 home matches, so this has the look of a big potential win for the hosts.

Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield are officially relegated after their 18-points Federation penalty. They are still on minus-seven points with a goal difference of minus-50. They’ve lost their last 13 games and haven’t won in 30, so they pose precious little challenge at this stage of the season.

Derby are six points below the playoff spots, so the end of season offers plenty of motivation for their players and fans alike. Derby haven’t been on top form, losing three and winning two of their last five games, but over their last nine Championship games their record is W5, D1, L3. This is the perfect time for Derby to get back into great form with a bucket of goals, which is exactly what I’m backing.

Verdict

Charlton to draw at home with Birmingham, and Swansea to win again at home.

Sheffield to claim a big win over West Brom, while Derby to give Sheffield Wednesday another tough afternoon in the Championship.
