Last updated: 8 minutes ago

This weekend in the English Premier League, Aston Villa and Leeds are expected to have a tight draw. Brentford looks set to surpass Brighton, especially with Brighton's recent scoreless streak. West Ham, sitting in the relegation zone, hopes to secure a crucial victory over mid-table Bournemouth to aid their survival bid, relying on their recent strong form. Meanwhile, Manchester City aim to narrow the gap on league leaders Arsenal with a likely dominant win against Newcastle in what promises to be a high-scoring encounter.

English Premier League Predictions

Aston Villa vs Leeds

Leeds are on a good run, losing just one of their last seven matches while picking up four wins, but they are just two wins above the drop zone. Villa are third in the League and are just eight points behind leaders Arsenal, and with a game in hand, so both teams have plenty to play for in this match.

Villa  have won 15 of their 26 games, with a goal spread of 37:27, while Leeds are down 36:45. Villa were on a four-wins-in-five streak, but have slipped in their last four matches, losing two, drawing one and winning one. Leeds have lost just one of their last eight games on the road, while Villa’s 11-match home winning streak has been upended by three defeats in five matches.

This has the makings of a tough draw between two teams who both really want the win but form is on Leeds’ side.

Brentford vs Brighton

Brentford’s great season could get even better as they front up to battling Brighton. Brentford could leapfrog Liverpool into 6th place if results go their way, and I’m banking on a Brentford home win. Brighton beat Brentford earlier in the season on home turf, but their seasons have changed a lot since then.

Brighton haven’t won in their last six matches, with four defeats in their last five. They have gone goalless in their last three matches and have scored just three goals in their last six. Brentford have won six of their last 10 matches, with two draws, scoring 15 goals. This is three points for Brentford, but I fancy Brighton to score once as they battle to turn their fortunes around.

West Ham vs Bournemouth

Bournemouth are sitting mid-table and don’t have many prospects or concerns for the rest of the season. West Ham are in the drop zone three points behind 17th-placed Notts Forest, who are likely to lose to Liverpool on the weekend. West Ham will throw everything at Bournemouth, and I’m backing them to pull off a win.

West Ham haven’t lost to Bournemouth in eight League games and are on a good run of form, with five wins from seven matches. Bournemouth haven’t lost in six League matches, with four wins, so they’ll be no pushovers, although they have lost seven and drawn five of their last 15 matches on the road. West Ham have won two and drawn two of their last five home games, and the combination of home ground advantage and fear of the trapdoor should lift them for the win.

Man City vs Newcastle

Second-placed City are on a power-surge as they bang away at Arsenal’s lead. Newcastle won their earlier League match 2-1 on home turf, but since then City beat the Toon army 2-0 and 3-1 in the two-leg League Cup semi-final.

Newcastle lost three League games in a row before beating Spurs 2-1 on the road, while City have won six and drawn one of their last seven games, so it’s not a good time to face Pep’s champions. City have scored 16 goals in their last seven games, while Newcastle have netted 13 times in their last four games.

City have won 17 of their last 20 home games, losing only in the Champions League to Bayer Leverkusen. Newcastle have won their last three on the road… but stretch that over their last 10 games and you’ll see four defeats, two draws and four wins.

On the goals side, Newcastle have scored 17 goals in their last eight away games. City have scored a staggering 35 goals in their last 12 home games. This should be a goal bonanza.

Verdict

Villa to share the points with Leeds, while Brentford to get the better of Brighton.

A big step for West Ham as they battle relegation, while City to close the gap on Arsenal with a big win over Newcastle.
