They began their 2022 World Cup qualification campaign with a 2-0 defeat away in Morocco. After falling 3-0 behind in the first half, Sudan then lost 4-2 at home to Guinea-Bissau.

Their last match saw a 1-1 home draw with Guinea. They trailed 1-0 after 56 minutes but substitute forward Saifeldin Bakhit came on to score a 72nd minute leveller.
