Head to Head

Since Cape Town City changed their name from Black Aces, they have met Mamelodi Sundowns 11 times across all competitions, with five wins apiece and one match drawn.

The two teams have met once before in cup competition football when Downs beat Cape Town City 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup back in 2018.

Mamelodi Sundowns Form

Mamelodi Sundowns have not won the MTN8 Cup since 2007 but are ready to claim their fourth in this competition when they face Cape Town City in Durban on Saturday.

The Brazilians beat AS Manieme Union 2-0 last weekend and took their total to 22 goals scored in 12 matches in all competitions this season, including 9 clean sheets.

Mamelodi Sundowns comfortably beat Cape Town City 3-0 at the end of last season, and Coach Rulani Mokwena will demand a similar performance from his team in the final.

Mamelodi Sundowns sit on top of the PSL with 19 points from 7 games. Additionally, they have not lost in their last 15 games in a row across competitions and will feel that they can add another trophy to their cabinet on Saturday.

Mamelodi Sundowns Team News & Injuries

Peter Shalulile scored against AS Maniema in the CAF Champions League fixture last weekend to bring his tally to 8 goals in all competitions this season and will be a threat to score in the final.

Themba Zwane is fit to return to the starting line-up and has been in good form with 4 goals this season.

Central defender Mosa Lebusa is fully fit and expected to play.

Defender Ricardo Nascimento has recovered from a long-term injury and is available for selection.

Cape Town City Form

Cape Town City are the underdogs for the MTN8 Cup final on Saturday but will relish trying to inflict Mamelodi Sundowns first defeat of the season at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The Citizens had success earlier in the competition at this venue when they ousted a good AmaZulu side 2-1 in the quarterfinals. Coach Eric Tinkler will remind his players of their success at this stadium.

Cape Town City is in 11th place on the PSL table with 9 points from 7 games and have scored 13 goals in their last ten games in all competitions.

Despite Cape Town City having indifferent form this season, they are an excellent cup football side, having won the 2016 Telkom Knockout Cup and the 2018 MTN8 Cup in the past five seasons, and will try to deny Sundowns lifting the cup on Saturday.

Cape Town City Team News & Injuries

Bradley Ralani has scored two goals in this competition and will want to add another in the final.

Thabo Nodada has two assists to his credit in this years MTN Cup competition and will be a threat.

Cape Town City playmaker Thato Mokeke is expected to put in a big performance.

Both captain Thamsanqa Mkhize and Terrence Mashego will be subject to late fitness tests on whether they will start.
