Stellenbosch vs Mamelodi Sundowns Predictions
Stellenbosch got two big wins in their last two matches after a poor season up until now. Sundowns are in imperious form with eight wins in a row and 23 matches unbeaten. They are outstanding at the back and I am predicting them to win to nil.
- Stellenbosch have lost 2 of their last 3 home matches (Premier Soccer League).
- Stellenbosch have lost their last 4 matches against Mamelodi Sundowns (all competitions).
- Mamelodi Sundowns have won 8 matches in a row (all competitions).
- Mamelodi Sundowns have won 8 matches to nil this season (Premier Soccer League).
- Mamelodi Sundowns have scored 2 or less goals in their last 11 matches (Premier Soccer League).
Head to Head
These sides have met on four occasions since Stellenbosch were founded in 2016. Mamelodi Sundowns hold a 4-0 advantage with no draws.
These sides last met in February in the Nedbank Cup as Mamelodi Sundowns won 3-2 at home after extra time.
Stellenbosch Form
After an eight match winless run, Stellenbosch had dropped to 13th place on the PSL table and were relegation candidates. Two subsequent wins has seen them shoot up to 9th place.
A 2-1 defeat at AmaZulu was followed by a 3-2 away loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup. A 3-1 loss at home to Golden Arrows and a 1-0 defeat away at TTM followed.
Stellenbosch then won 2-1 away at Cape Town City and 3-1 away at Baroka in their last match to open up a seven point gap to the relegation zone.
Stellenbosch Injuries & Team News
Goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt has been carrying an injury and has missed the last four matches. Sage Stephens could again don the jersey in goal for this one.
Midfield Phathu Nange has scored three goals from the bench this season including in the last match and is pushing hard for a start.
Mamelodi Sundowns Form
Sundowns are in imperious form with the side 23 matches unbeaten and with eight wins in a row across all competitions. They sit top of the PSL table with a one point lead over the two teams below them but with at least three matches in hand.
Mamelodi Sundowns have only had one league match in the last six weeks as they beat Stellenbosch 3-2 at home in the Nedbank Cup, beat Al Hilal Omdurman 2-1 at home in the CAF Champions League and Baroka 2-0 at home in the PSL.
A 5-1 win at Belouizdad followed and a 2-1 win away at TP Mazembe. In their last match, Sundowns beat Polokwane City 4-0 in the Nedbank Cup having been four goals up after 28 minutes and then taking their foot off the gas.
Mamelodi Sundowns Injuries & Team News
Sundowns rested numerous players in the Nedbank Cup but all of goalkeeper Denis Onyango, midfielders Rivaldo Coetzee and Themba Zwane and forward Gaston Sirino should return to the XI.
The only real injuries that the coaching team have to worry about are over captain Hlompho Kekana in midfield and Brian Onyango in defence.
