Levante vs Celta Vigo
Both teams are uncomfortably close to the drop zone. Celta Vigo are unbeaten in their last six matches, including four wins, while Levante have won just two of their last six games. Their last four games against one another saw two draws and two wins for Celta Vigo, but it’s their recent form that has me interested: W-W-W for Celta, while Levante are L-D-W. This looks like a win or draw for Celta.
Alaves vs Espanyol
High-riding Espanyol have won three on the bounce while Alaves have lost two of their last four matches in La Liga. Espanyol have won 4:1 to Alaves in recent La Liga clashes, and their only loss in five away matches was to Real Madrid. Last season Espanyola did the double over Alaves, but both wins were by one goal, so we can expect a tight contest on Sunday.
Barcelona vs Elche
Elche are in touching distance of Europe next season, thanks to five draws this season, while Barca are losing ground on La Liga leaders Real Madrid. Barca have had their struggles, losing three of their last five games (two wins), but all against strong opposition. Elche are light on goals in La Liga, and have lost 12 of their 13 games played against Barca, scoring three times and conceding 40 goals, picking up a single draw back in 2014.
Betis vs Mallorca
Mallorca are one stumble away from the bottom of the table, while Betis are pushing for Europe. Betis lead 4:1 in recent La Liga clashes, each of those wins coming without a goal from Mallorca, who have a minus-4 goal difference in La Liga this season. Betis at home should have the fire-power to beat Mallorca, but it’s not going to be a goalfest.
Verdict
Vital win for Celta Vigo away to Levante, Alaves and Espanyol to slug it out in tight clash.
Barcelona to batter Elche, while Betis should claim a narrow win over Mallorca.
