Champions League predictions - 18 March 2026, Round of 16

The Champions League Round of 16 promises thrilling matchups. Barcelona is expected to dominate Newcastle given their stellar home record, despite Newcastle's previous draw at home. Bayern Munich looks set to dismantle Atalanta, exploiting their defensive issues. At Anfield, Liverpool aims to overturn a deficit against an in-form Galatasaray, banking on their strong home performances. Lastly, Tottenham will likely struggle against Atletico Madrid despite their attacking efforts, needing to overcome a substantial goal deficit with no wins in their last eight matches.

Champions League Predictions, Round of 16


Barcelona vs Newcastle


Newcastle have struggled in the Premier League but have had a great Champions league campaign. They held Barca to a 1-1 draw at home in the 1st leg, but there's no way the Magpies can win at the Camp Nou.

Barca have won their last 17 matches at home in a row, scoring 2-plus goals in each game. They have scored 58 goals in those 17 home games, conceding just 12 times, keeping 7 clean sheets. 

Newcastle beat Chelsea in their last away match, but they have lost 3 of their last 7 matches on the road, even though they scored 15 goals in those matches. In my book it’s goodnight Newcastle!

Bayern Munich vs Atalanta


Atalanta have no chance in the 2nd leg against Bayern, coming into the match away from home with a 5-goal deficit. Atalanta are winless in their last 5 games, while Bayern have lost just twice in their last 25 matches.

On the road Atalanta have just 1 win in 8 matches, failing to score in 3 of those games. At home Bayern have won 8 of their last 10 matches, scoring 33 times. This should be a goal bonanza for Bayern, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them hit 5 goals. 

Liverpool vs Galatasaray


Which Liverpool side will turn up at Anfield to try turn over Galatasaray’s 1-goal lead from the first leg? Liverpool have a draw and 2 defeats in their last 4 matches, going down to Galatasaray and to last-placed Wolves.

Galatasaray have won their last 5 on the bounce, stretching that to 8 in 10. At home Liverpool have lost just 1 in 12, scoring 30 times. Galatasaray have won 3 and lost 3 in their last 6 away matches, so I think the Anfield Faithful are in for a good night. 

Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid


'Just get this season over' is what Spurs fans will be thinking as they host Atletico with a 3-goal deficit to overcome. The hosts are winless in their last 8 matches, having lost 6 in a row, so they have no form on their side.

Atletico have won 6 of their last 7 matches, scoring 18 times, so they will no doubt fill their boots with goals again in the 2nd leg. 

Spurs have scored in 9 of their last 10 games, and with nothing to lose I can see them going flatout against Atletico, even if just to boost their confidence for their Premier League relegation dogfight. This should be a goal bonanza, but I still see Spurs losing.

Verdict

Barcelona to wipe out Newcastle, while goals to flow as Bayern crush Atalanta.

Liverpool to outgun Galatasaray, while Spurs to go down fighting (and scoring) against Atletico Madrid.
