Denmark vs Belgium Predictions

Belgium are one of the favourites to lift the Euro 2020 tophy and have forward Romelu Lukaku in sensational form. With Denmark suffering mentally and emotionally, I'm tipping Belgium to win in Copenhagen on Thursday.

  • Denmark have lost their last 3 matches (UEFA European Championship).
  • Belgium have won by 2 goals in their last 2 matches against Denmark (UEFA Nations League).
  • Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku scored 2 goals in his last match against Denmark (UEFA Nations League).
  • Belgium have won 20 of their last 24 matches (all competitions).
  • Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku has scored 22 goals in his last 19 international matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

Denmark and Belgium have six wins each with 3 draws in 15 matches.

They last met in the UEFA Nations League in 2020, Belgium winning 2-0 in Copenhagen and 4-2 in Brussels.

Denmark Form

Denmark came into Euro 2020 having won nine of their previous 11 matches. They had been very strong defensively after keeping nine clean sheets in their previous 12 matches.

The Red and Whites won all three of their World Cup qualifiers, beating Israel 2-0, Moldova 8-0 and Austria 4-0.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side played two friendlies to prepare for Euro 2020. They drew 1-1 against Germany before a 2-0 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina

Denmark had an eventful opener in Group B, going down 1-0 against Finland. Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch, the players waiting a long time before returning to finish the game.

The Danes ended with 70% possession, 22-1 shots and saw Pierre-Emile Højbjerg with a penalty saved.

Denmark Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Kasper Schmeichel, Jonas Lössl, Frederik Rønnow
Defenders: Joachim Andersen, Jannik Vestergaard, Simon Kjær (captain), Joakim Mæhle, Andreas Christensen, Mathias Jørgensen, Jens Stryger Larsen, Nicolai Boilesen
Midfielders: Robert Skov, Thomas Delaney, Christian Eriksen, Christian Nørgaard, Daniel Wass, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Mathias Jensen, Anders Christiansen
Forwards: Martin Braithwaite, Andreas Skov Olsen, Kasper Dolberg, Mikkel Damsgaard, Jonas Wind, Yussuf Poulsen, Andreas Cornelius

Attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest against Finland and might not play professional football again.

Kasper Hjulmand has a number of attacking options which could mean changes against Belgium.

Some players might not be psychologically prepared to play after the distressing scenes on Saturday.

Belgium Form

Belgium have won 20 of their last 24 matches. They won two of their three World Cup qualifiers, a 3-1 win against Wales and 8-0 win against Belarus either side of a 1-1 draw in the Czech Republic.

The Red Devils played two friendlies to prepare for Euro 2020. They drew 1-1 against Greece before a 1-0 win against Croatia with Romelu Lukaku scoring the winner.

Roberto Martínez’ side beat Russia 3-0 to get off to a great start in Group B. Romelu Lukaku scored the first and last goals with Thomas Meunier on target in Saint-Petersburg, Belgium having 66% possession and 4-1 shots on target.

Belgium Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Thibaut Courtois, Simon Mignolet, Matz Sels

Jan Vertonghen picked up a knock and could be replaced by Thomas Vermaelen in central defence.

Eden Hazard came on as a substitute and could come off the bench again.

Romelu Lukaku has scored 62 goals in 94 internationals and will be the main man up front.

Verdict

Belgium are a fantastic side and with Romelu Lukaku in sensational form, the Red Devils can win in Copenhagen against a Denmark side who are still coming to terms with what happened to Christian Eriksen.
