Portugal have won five of their last six matches. Fernando Santos’ side started the World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 win against Azerbaijan followed by 2-2 draw in Serbia and 3-1 win in Luxembourg.

The Seleção played two friendlies to prepare for Euro 2020. They drew 0-0 against Spain before a 4-0 win against Israel with Bruno Fernandes (2), Cristiano Ronaldo and João Cancelo on target.

João Cancelo tested positive for COVID-19 and was replaced by Diogo Dalot. Expect Nelson Semedo to continue at right back.

Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patrício is closing in on 100 caps, Pepe earning 116 and João Moutinho 132 caps.

Captain Cristiano Ronaldo has 176 caps and 106 goals to his name. He is closing in on being the top international goalscorer of all time.

Germany have been inconsistent. They have lost three of their last seven games which includes a 6-0 defeat against Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

Joachim Löw’s side started their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win against Iceland and 1-0 win in Romania. They returned to Germany and lost 2-1 against North Macedonia.

Die Mannschaft have played two international friendlies to prepare for Euro 2020. They drew 1-1 against Denmark before a 7-1 win against Latvia.

Germany started Euro 2020 with a 1-0 defeat against France. They were allowed to have most of the ball but were largely ineffective, Mats Hummels scoring an own goal in the 20th minute.

Verdict

Germany’s defence is a problem area and Portugal have the firepower to add insult to injury. I'm tipping Portugal to win the match and qualify for the knockout rounds after just two games. Cristiano Ronaldo can continue his goalscoring form and add to his incredible 106 international goals.
