2025 Women's Cricket World Cup - South Africa Women strong contenders to make final

Last updated: 02 Nov 2025

The South African Women’s cricket team is making strides towards capturing the 2025 Cricket World Cup with recent impressive achievements. They have consistently reached the semi-finals in past two World Cups and have star players, including Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp, and Tazmin Brits, who rank in the top 10 of the ICC’s WODI rankings. The team is aiming for a top finish, possibly facing powerhouse Australia in the finals. South Africa seeks to become the first senior SA team to bring home a World Cup, leveraging their top-ranked players in batting, bowling, and all-round capabilities.

South Africa ready to shine in Women’s Cricket World Cup

The South African Women’s cricket team has enjoyed incredible growth and success over the past eight years. In the last two Cricket World Cups they have made the semi-finals, while in the shorter whiteball format they have made the final of the T20 World Cup in the last two tournaments.

They have also developed an increasing number of players who have enjoyed huge success on the world stage over the past year in particular. Laura Wolvaardt (4th), Tazmin Brits (6th) and Marizanne Kapp (9th) are all in the top 10 of the ICC’s WODI batting rankings.

The Proteas have three bowlers in the ICC’s top 20 of their WODI bowling rankings –  Kapp (6th), Ayabonga Khaka (15th) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (19th). They also have three all-rounders in the top 15 of the ICC’s WODI all-rounder rankings – Kapp (2nd), Chloe Tryon (11th) and Nadine de Klerk (15th).

South Africa will, at minimum, be targetting a semi-final place, but they will be hoping to make the final. With the likelihood that Australia will be one of the finalists, it would present the South African Women with the chance of being the first senior South African team to clinch a World Cup… but to do so they will likely have to beat one of the best and most dominant cricket teams in history.
