Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades Predictions - McDermott to drive Hurricanes to third win on the bounce

Last updated: 2 hours ago

The Hobart Hurricanes are riding a wave of strong performances as they gear up to face the Melbourne Renegades in their upcoming Big Bash match. The Hurricanes recently defeated the Renegades by seven wickets and are expected to continue their winning streak. With players like Ben McDermott and Nikhil Chaudhary in excellent form, the Hurricanes look formidable. However, the Renegades shouldn't be underestimated with standout performers like Tim Seifert in their ranks. Despite some injury concerns, especially with Tim David's expected absence, the Hurricanes remain favorites.

Hobart Hurricanes Form

Hobart Hurricanes made it three wins from their four league matches this season when they beat the Scorchers by 4 wickets.

The Hurricanes’ success has been built partly on their tight bowling this season. Reham Ahmed (7.22) is 5th in the Big Bash economy rates list, followed by Rishad Hossain (8th, 7.50) and Billy Stanlake (9th, 7.57). Stanlake took 3/34 against the Thunder in their opening win. Hossain is joint 5th (6 wickets) with the most wickets this season.

Their batting has centred around Ben McDermott (165 runs) and Nikhil Chaudhary (161 runs), who are 3rd and 4th in the Big Bash runs list. Tim David (98 runs) is 13th on the runs list but is likely to be out with a hamstring injury until the playoff stages.

Melbourne Renegades Form

After winning their opener, the Renegades suffered a 7-wicket loss to the Hurricanes in their second match of the season.

They are just two matches into their season, but their top order has not yet fully fired up. Tim Seifert scored an astonishing 102 in the opener, following it with 34 against the Hurricanes. Oliver Peake scored 57 in their opener, but the talented Jake Fraser-McGurk has failed to find form, along with opener Josh Brown and No. 3 Mohammad Rizwan.

Adam Zampa is their bowling kingpin, but he has had just one match where he bowled at a brilliant 5.66 at over. Jason Behrendorff has put in a good shift this season, taking 2/34 and 2/35 at under 10 to the over. Will Sutherland took 3/33 (econ 8.5) and Gurinder Sandhu 2/35 (econ 8.75) in their opening win against the Heat.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades Team News

The Hurricanes' Tim David retired hurt with a hamstring injury on 42 in the win over the Scorchers. He is likely to miss the rest of the Big Bash season.

“I'm shattered he potentially might miss a few games for the Hurricanes, but I'm hopeful that we'll do all the right things and hopefully, potentially, get him right for the back-end of the tournament. He's a huge figure in the Australian cricket team, there's no secret there. He's been batting four and dominating, so fingers crossed it's not too bad," said Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis.

Matthew Wade missed out on their win over the Scorchers but is likely to be back in the match day XI to face the Renegades, while injured pace-man Iain Carlisle has been replaced by Hugo Burdon as a Local Replacement Player.

The Renegades have brought in top-order batter Caleb Jewell to replace Fergus O'Neill, who scored 6 in his only innings and failed to take a wicket in their first two matches.
