Gujarat Titans IPL Squad Preview - Titans have the quality to make it two titles in three years

Champions in 2022 in their first season in the IPL, and runners-up last season, the Titans have again assembled a quality squad that would expect to make it to the payoffs. They don’t have a lot of depth of batting, but their three big names – Shubman Hill, Kane Williamson and David Miller – are all super-reliable with the bat. They have plenty of bowling options, especially in terms of spin.

The Titans have beefed up their bowling resources, adding Spencer Johnson, Umesh Yadav, Azmatullah Omarzai, Kartik Tyagi, Manav Suthar, Shahrukh Khan, Sushant Mishra and Robin Minz.

The loss of Mohammed Shami (ankle surgery) is a cruel blow, but the form of last season’s leading runscorer (Shubman Gill, 890 runs) will be key to the Titans’ success, along with the bowling of last season’s leading wicket-takers in the ILP – Mohit Sharma (top of the IPL 2023 list with 28 wickets) and Rashid Khan (joint second with injured team-mate Mohammed Shami on 27 wickets). 

Their batting has some big names (see above), but they are rich in bowlers, from Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma, to Josh Little, Umesh Yadav and Spencer Johnson.
