  • Punjab’s bowling is strong, but their specialist batters have not been in form of late.
  • They deserved more than their eighth-place finish last season after some close finishes.
  • The IPL starts on 22 March, with the final scheduled for 26 May 2024.

Season preview

Punjab are one of the least successful IPL sides, having made it to the final just once (losing to the Knight Riders in 2014 as the Kings XI Punujab) and only making the playoffs on one other occasion. This season they are looking really strong when it comes to their bowlers and all-rounders, but the key to their success in 2024 will be if power-hitters Rilee Rossouw and Jonny Bairstow start hitting their straps.

New players

Harshal Patel, Chris Woakes, Ashutosh Sharma, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, Shashank Singh, Tanay Thyagarajann, Prince Choudhary and Rilee Rossouw.

Key players

Aside from skipper Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza, Chris Woakes, Nathan Ellis is a player of great potential. However, if their out-of-form big-hitters Rilee Rossouw and Jonny Bairstow come good it would give them the extra fire-power to challenge for the playoffs.
