  • Seattle Orcas’ Shayan Jahangir hit 7 sixes in his 47-ball 78 in the opener.

Head-to-Head

Washington Freedom have won all three of their previous matches against the Orcas. The last two matches were secured with 39 balls and 64 balls in hand.

Seattle Orcas Form

The Orcas have not enjoyed much success in their last two seasons, losing their last two matches of last season and then losing their high-scoring opener against the Texas Super Kings by six wickets with an over and a half to spare.

The Orcas openers Tim Seifert and Shayan Jahangir got the tournament off with a 191-run opening stand on the way to posting a score of 220/2 against the Super Kings. Seifert (104 off 66 balls) and Shayan Jahangir (78 off 47 balls) starred with the bat.

The Super Kings raced to the win for the loss of just four wickets with nine balls to spare. Jasdeep Singh, Cameron Gannon, Ottneil Baartman and Marcus Stoinis each picked up a wicket, with all but Stoinis going for over 10 runs to the over.

Washington Freedom Form

The Freedom won eight of their 10 league matches last season in the MLC, only to lose in the final to MI New York by five runs in a thrilling final over scrap.

Steven Smith has scored 6,622 runs in T20 cricket (ave 32.78). He scored 336 runs (ave 56.00) in the 2024 MLC season. Mark Chapman has innings of 23, 69* and 43 in his last four matches.

Glenn Maxwell has scored 11,085 runs and taken 203 wickets in T20 cricket. Ben Dwarshuis has picked up five wickets in his last three matches while Marco Jansen picked up nine wickets in the recent IPL, including figures of 2/33 in the Punjab Kings’ last match victory against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Team news

The Orcas openers were superb in their opener, but it remains to be seen how the rest of the top order fair after missing out on batting time in the opener. The Freedom have a strong squad once again and are likely to overwhelm the Orca for a fourth match in a row.

Seattle Orcas (possible XI): Tim Seifert, Shayan Jahangir, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Breetzke, Dasun Shanaka, Jasdeep Singh, Cameron Gannon, Ottneil Baartman, Harmeet Singh, Ali Sheikh.

Washington Freedom (possible XI): Steven Smith (c), Amila Aponso, Mark Chapman, Nikhil Chaudhary, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Andries Gous, Ian Holland, Marco Jansen, Glenn Maxwell, Lahiru Milantha.

Verdict

Seattle Orcas Washington Freedom are tipped to win, with Tim Seifert, Steven Smith, Marco Jansen and Marcus Stoinis backed to star with bat and ball.
